Confidence

Hebrews 10:35

New King James Version (NKJV)

35 Therefore do not cast away your confidence, which has great reward.

Confidence means full assurance, full certainty. There are many different areas that we exert confidence in. We must have full confidence in God. The bible has a few things to say about confidence. Confidence is so important to your development as a Christian. If you don’t have confidence, you don’t stand a chance. One of the strategies of the enemy is to rob you of your confidence. The anointing always flows through your confidence. For example, if God is telling you, “you are a winner”, but you keep telling God, “I am a loser.” God can’t move in your life as He wants to, because your lack of belief prevents the plan of God from coming forth.

Confidence is a good thing. Confidence is not the same as arrogance. Arrogance is the same as pride. Arrogance is an overarching sense of self importance. When a person is arrogant, they put themselves on a pedestal at the expense of others. Arrogance is when a person has a sense of superiority over others. For example, an arrogant person believes they are better than others. They make precocious statements about their own accomplishment while putting down another’s lack of accomplishments. I once heard a minister talk about his many accomplishments, all the while stating to the audience how they couldn’t do the same thing. This is an example of arrogance. Making statements like, “I have been saved for 10 years and you can't stay saved for five minutes.” Is an example of arrogance. This is someone who is boasting while putting another down, thereby displaying arrogance.

God absolutely despises the proud and arrogant. Proud means arrogance. God considers arrogance an abomination.

Proverbs 16:5 (NKJV)

5 Everyone proud in heart is an abomination to the LORD;

Though they join forces,[a] none will go unpunished

Revelation 21:8 (KJV)

8 But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.

Proverbs 6:16-19 (NKJV)

16 These six things the LORD hates,

Yes, seven are an abomination to Him:

17 A proud look,

A lying tongue,

Hands that shed innocent blood,

18 A heart that devises wicked plans,

Feet that are swift in running to evil,

19 A false witness who speaks lies,

And one who sows discord among brethren.

Abomination means a thing that causes disgust or hatred. It means vile, shameful, detestable, greatly disliked. God greatly dislikes pride and arrogance. In fact, when leaders fall, it is always preceded by their own pride.

Proverbs 16:18 (NKJV)

18 Pride goes before destruction,

And a haughty spirit before a fall

Haughty also means proud, arrogant, vain, conceited, snobbish, superior, self-important, pompous, supercilious, condescending, and patronizing.

By the way homosexuality is an abomination before God.

Leviticus 18:22 (NKJV)

22 You shall not lie with a male as with a woman. It is an abomination.

It may seem that pride and arrogance are small matters, but to God, they are major disgraces before Him. God will not put up with arrogance in people, nations, or leaders.

There is a major difference between confidence and arrogance. Many people confuse the two. When you are confident, you know who are in Christ and you recognize without Him, you can do nothing. Arrogance on the other hand, is perverted confidence in ones one’s ability, that in turn, allows an individual to mistreat and put down another.

However, false humility is not of God either. False humility is the exact opposite of arrogance. False humility is lack confidence. It means to not acknowledge one’s accomplishments, to put others on a pedestal above themselves and not act or feel worthy of praise. Persons who exhibit false humility have an inability to receive. They can’t receive from man and they certainty cannot receive from God.

Humility is silent confidence in God. Humility means to submit yourself to God’s authority and to recognize that it is through Him that we are able to do mighty works. The bible says some awesome things about humble people. One of the greatest leaders that ever lived was known as a humble man. A humble person has a spirit of submission and servitude.
