Ephesians 2:10 (NKJV)10 For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.

Ultimately the purpose of God is to advance His kingdom. It is to establish His rule and His reign in the earth. It is also to bring others into the body of Christ through salvation.Purpose is the meaning or reason something has been created. As stated, nothing is created without a purpose in mind. God doesn’t wait until we are born to figure out what we are supposed to be. Before we are ever a thought in our parents mind, God had a plan of who we would be and what He wanted us to become.

Jeremiah 1:5 (NKJV)5 “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you; Before you were born I sanctified you;Everything about us, our characteristics, our flaws, our specific quirks are because God had His idea of who we would be. If you have ever felt different, odd compared to your peers, associates, or family, it is not your imagination. You really were created different for a reason. That difference was specific to your purpose for being on earth. For example, I have always been the quiet one in the family. From a very small child my parents nicknamed me “bookie”, because I always had my mind elsewhere and my head in a book. I am naturally a quiet and I love to sit and observe the world. From a child, my favorite thing to do was to sit in my room alone and be by myself. My sisters are both loud, and outgoing; while I am a natural introvert. Now it makes sense, I have the true spirit of a writer. Of course writers come with different personalities, but most tend to love books more than most people and they love being alone trying to figure out the world. God made me the way I am because He knew I’d be a writer. I can’t stand being around a lot of people for long periods of time. I’d rather be somewhere writing or reading a book. I’d rather write than talk. I’d rather listen to someone else than be heard. Of course as time has gone by, I have had to be more balanced, but my core personality is the same. I wouldn’t be a writer if I didn’t have a personality that likes to spend hours and hours alone. However, there are some aspects of your personality that has nothing to do with your assignment but it still fits. Imagine my call into ministry where I saw myself declaring the word of God with power and authority. Despite how quiet I am I love to teach. So not only does God know our purpose, He creates us uniquely and designs us based upon His purpose for us.Luke 14:28-32 (NKJV)28 For which of you, intending to build a tower, does not sit down first and count the cost, whether he has enough to finish it—29 lest, after he has laid the foundation, and is not able to finish, all who see it begin to mock him,30 saying, ‘This man began to build and was not able to finish’?31 Or what king, going to make war against another king, does not sit down first and consider whether he is able with ten thousand to meet him who comes against him with twenty thousand?32 Or else, while the other is still a great way off, he sends a delegation and asks conditions of peace.Again, God doesn’t just sit down and consider what He needs you for; He sits down and makes your personality fit your purpose.Psalms 139:13 (GNT)13 You created every part of me;you put me together in my mother's womb.

So everything we are is created with God’s divine purpose in mind. Purpose doesn’t to deal with what you will be, but what you already are. When your process and purpose meets, then you have manifestation.Purpose also refers to how an object is supposed to be handled. For example, when you know your purpose, you are not willing to accept second best. When you know your purpose, you tend to build relationships with people who have similar passions. I heard a pastor say that when you don’t know the purpose for a thing, abuse is inevitable. For example, books are for reading. However, if I use my books for holding a window panel open, or as fire for my fireplace I am abusing the purpose for which the thing was created. Books can be used to prop open a window, they can be used to keep the camp fire going. However, if I use the books for that, I am missing the true treasure for which the book was created. What if the book, had secrets to become a millionaire? Or what if the books provided some other hidden secret that was the key that would unlock my success? I would miss all of what is being offered because I am not using the object for the purpose for which it was created. It is the same with people, inside of us is that hidden treasure but people’s gifts, talents, and abilities are being abused because they are not using the creative purpose for which they are created. Even worse, people are going through life depressed, unhappy, and waiting to die, because they believe they have no purpose to live. Many of these people simply don’t know that they have a greater purpose for being. We were created to be what God called us to be not just exist.I am a licensed therapist; a part of my job is to do comprehensive clinical assessments. An assessment is when the clinician interviews the client for about an hour sometimes ninety minutes. The clinician is asking specific questions to diagnosis the client with a mental health condition and to get a clinical picture of how the person came to be, who they are, and the direction the therapist should approach in therapy. One of the questions I tend to ask the client other than their symptoms is what are they passionate about? What are their goals? You’d be surprised; most people either don’t know or are just trying to survive one day to the next. That is no way to live. In God’s kingdom, we don’t live to die, die to live.Purpose gives you a reason to live. Pursuit of the purpose, which we will talk about in a later chapter, gives you the persistence to keep going on despite whatever obstacles you face. Purpose gives the individual a reason for being. When you know your purpose, you have a reason to go on, despite your present circumstances.Purpose gives us the answers to the questions of life. Why I am here? Why did I go through that? Why am I going through this difficulty? Why was I rejected? Why, why, why. The answer is always because of purpose. Purpose is the answer to the why’s of life. We go through certain struggles, because God is preparing us to fulfill His divine purpose for our lives. Nothing happens by happenstance. Nothing happens accidentally. Nothing is without cause. You want to be on the good side of purpose and the not bad. The reality is, even evil has a purpose. The devil has an agenda and a purpose. Although it is not the original purpose that God intended for us to have, it is a purpose none the less.John 10:10 (KJV)10 The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly. That brings me to an interesting point that I have never heard anyone mention about purpose. The reality is, there are two purposes that can exist within a person’s life. There is God’s divine purpose for your life, and there is the enemy’s purpose for your life. Oh yes! Satan does have an agenda and purpose for your life. Satan’s purpose is always perverted. Satan’s purpose for your life is always meant to take you away from God’s purpose for your life. Think about your favorite R&B singer. These people are NOT being used by God. Satan has an agenda. It is very possible to have success by the world’s standards and still lose your soul. So when I talk about purpose, I am intending to awaken the God ordained purpose for your life.Mark 8:36 (KJV)36 For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? There is even a reason that curses exist in the earth, and it is always a result of rebellion or turning away from God’s original purpose or intent.Proverbs 26:2 (KJV)As the bird by wandering, as the swallow by flying, so the curse causeless shall not come.So don’t assume because a person is successful they are fulfilling their God ordained purpose. Position with man doesn’t mean position with God. Authority with man doesn’t mean authority with God.In fact, we are seeing a great compromise through many of our leaders in the church. These people are successful by man’s standards, but God is not pleased. I believe that we are going to see a great uprising, where the remnant is going to be raised up to take the position of these prominent leaders. God takes no pleasure in making you successful if it is not through Him. God abhors compromisers and will not stand for it.Again, the enemy cannot create anything. That is one thing he will never be able to do, no matter how hard he tries. So when I say the enemy has a purpose for you, I am not intending to suggest that he creates a purpose. Again all satan does is pervert the original intent for which God creates a thing. For example, we know that the earth was created in God’s fullness and for His agenda. However, when satan introduced sin to Eve in the garden of Eden. The earth then became sin natured and the original intent for which the earth was created then was perverted. However, when Christ died on the cross He reconciled the cross back to Himself. Another example is the R & B singer that I mentioned. The purpose for worship which we will talk about in another chapter, was to bring honor to God and to set the atmosphere for God’s presence to manifest. Yet someone who sings music that is full of lust, sex, perverted love, is an example of purpose perverted. God never creates a minstrel to promote sin. I encourage you to pick up my latest book The Heart of Worship.Remember the gift of God is without repentance. Meaning just because you have a gift from God, doesn’t mean you are using the gift to honor God.Romans 11:29 (NIV)29 for God’s gifts and his call are irrevocable.Again so just because someone is gifted doesn’t mean they are anointed. This is why we shouldn’t be so caught up in a person’s position or title. God is faithful. He puts the gift in us, but we have to decide whether the gift will be used for His glory or to glorify the devil and His agenda.Satan knows our purpose long before we do. He will try to stop it from coming forth in its infancy. There are two kinds of people that are unsuccessful in God’s eyes; those who never used their gift or abilities and the one who uses their gift and ability for sin and shame. I don’t know about you, but I don’t want to be either.

God’s Purpose vs Satan’s Perverted PurposeBrings honor to God vs Brings honor to selfWorships God Adultery,  vs worship of selfHoliness vs SinPosition with God first then man vs Position with man first no position with God.Authority on the earth and in heaven Superficial authority on earth with man, vsno authority in heaven or with God.Humility Pride vs ArroganceEternal reward Temporary reward on earth, but hell is the final destinationIrrevocablevs vsRevocableNon compromising vs CompromisingGod Serving, advancing His Kingdom, for His purpose Self-seeking, selfish motives, self-serving

Remember, God doesn’t care about lip services. We know who belongs to Him by the fruit that they bare. If the fruit reflects sin and shame, so is the root and no matter how many scriptures it quotes, it is of the devil. However, if the fruit is Godly it belongs to God.Your purpose is always complete in God. You will never find fulfillment in purpose outside of God. Kingdom purpose is always in three different forms. There is the universal or worldwide purpose. The universal or worldwide purpose is found within the word of God. It is the same for all generations. We are a called out body of believers sent to advance His will on earth. There is corporate purpose. Your corporate purpose can be within your local area, your local church. It is an assignment for more than one person, or a specific body of believers. Then there is your individual purpose it is your part or specific purpose within the corporate and universal purpose of God. However, each sphere of purpose is always interrelated and cannot be separated from one another. Most people focus on their individual purpose and end up missing it because we must realize that our purpose is not about us it is about God and fulfilling His mandate. Remember we spoke of mandate in the previous chapter. So when you seek God don’t just seek your individual assignment you must know how it relates to your corporate body and the world wide kingdom of God.First your individual purpose is again the office specific function you have within the body of Christ. Your individual purpose is your part within a greater vision. For example, let say you work for a company, you are not the company, you have a role or job to play within the company that at the end of it all is for the advancement of the company as a whole. You are a great part of the body of Christ, you are a part of the team. However, again if you don’t already know seek God for how your individual purpose or place is related to the corporate and universal agenda of God. Look at what the scripture says about your part within the body of Christ.1 Corinthians 12:4-31The Message (MSG)4-11 God’s various gifts are handed out everywhere; but they all originate in God’s Spirit. God’s various ministries are carried out everywhere; but they all originate in God’s Spirit. God’s various expressions of power are in action everywhere; but God himself is behind it all. Each person is given something to do that shows who God is: Everyone gets in on it, everyone benefits. All kinds of things are handed out by the Spirit, and to all kinds of people! The variety is wonderful:wise counselclear understandingsimple trusthealing the sickmiraculous actsproclamationdistinguishing between spiritstonguesinterpretation of tongues. All these gifts have a common origin, but are handed out one by one by the one Spirit of God. He decides who gets what, and when.12-13 You can easily enough see how this kind of thing works by looking no further than your own body. Your body has many parts—limbs, organs, cells—but no matter how many parts you can name, you’re still one body. It’s exactly the same with Christ. By means of his one Spirit, we all said good-bye to our partial and piecemeal lives. We each used to independently call our own shots, but then we entered into a large and integrated life in which he has the final say in everything. (This is what we proclaimed in word and action when we were baptized.) Each of us is now a part of his resurrection body, refreshed and sustained at one fountain—his Spirit—where we all come to drink. The old labels we once used to identify ourselves—labels like Jew or Greek, slave or free—are no longer useful. We need something larger, more comprehensive.14-18 I want you to think about how all this makes you more significant, not less. A body isn’t just a single part blown up into something huge. It’s all the different-but-similar parts arranged and functioning together. If Foot said, “I’m not elegant like Hand, embellished with rings; I guess I don’t belong to this body,” would that make it so? If Ear said, “I’m not beautiful like Eye, limpid and expressive; I don’t deserve a place on the head,” would you want to remove it from the body? If the body was all eye, how could it hear? If all ear, how could it smell? As it is, we see that God has carefully placed each part of the body right where he wanted it.

19-24 But I also want you to think about how this keeps your significance from getting blown up into self-importance. For no matter how significant you are, it is only because of what you are a part of. An enormous eye or a gigantic hand wouldn’t be a body, but a monster. What we have is one body with many parts, each its proper size and in its proper place. No part is important on its own. Can you imagine Eye telling Hand, “Get lost; I don’t need you”? Or, Head telling Foot, “You’re fired; your job has been phased out”? As a matter of fact, in practice it works the other way—the “lower” the part, the more basic, and therefore necessary. You can live without an eye, for instance, but not without a stomach. When it’s a part of your own body you are concerned with, it makes no difference whether the part is visible or clothed, higher or lower. You give it dignity and honor just as it is, without comparisons. If anything, you have more concern for the lower parts than the higher. If you had to choose, wouldn’t you prefer good digestion to full-bodied hair?25-26 The way God designed our bodies is a model for understanding our lives together as a church: every part dependent on every other part, the parts we mention and the parts we don’t, the parts we see and the parts we don’t. If one part hurts, every other part is involved in the hurt, and in the healing. If one part flourishes, every other part enters into the exuberance.27-31 You are Christ’s body—that’s who you are! You must never forget this. Only as you accept your part of that body does your “part” mean anything. You’re familiar with some of the parts that God has formed in his church, which is his “body”:apostlesprophetsteachersmiracle workershealershelpersorganizersthose who pray in tongues. But it’s obvious by now, isn’t it, that Christ’s church is a complete Body and not a gigantic, unidimensional Part? It’s not all Apostle, not all Prophet, not all Miracle Worker, not all Healer, not all Prayer in Tongues, not all Interpreter of Tongues. And yet some of you keep competing for so-called “important” parts. But now I want to lay out a far better way for you.The scripture in I Corinthians 12 is very powerful and a true illustration of Kingdom purpose. We must be clear about our specific purpose. Remember, this is important because as stated in the previous chapter, you will only have authority in places that God has purposed for you. We will talk more about Kingdom authority in another chapter. However you will only be successful in what God has purposed for you.As God is getting ready to birth you into your part of the ministry be very clear about who you are. Be willing to say no when it is not a part of your assignment. In fact, I recently had an incident where I was being asked to help a family member. I initially said yes, however after going further into it, I had no peace about it. I realized I had no grace to carry out the help that was needed. The reason why is because although the person needed help, and I appeared to be the best person for the job; it became very clear to me that it was not a part of my ministry or my assignment. In fact, it would have been a major distraction to me fulfilling the call of God on my life.Again, be clear because the enemy will use opportunity as a distraction if you are not clear. You are going to see many doors of opportunity open to you. However, don’t be so pressed about an opportunity that you assume it is God.When you are clear about your assignment and your purpose you can confidently say no, because you can rightly discern what is an opportunity from God and what is a distraction from the enemy. Remember, the enemy doesn’t always come as an enemy he comes as an angel of light, he knows how to manipulate and make himself appear to be a part of Christendom. As God is birthing you out, you have to be clear and confident in your gifting, your purpose, and your place within the body of Christ.Remember there is purpose, the why you were called, then there is the mandate (assignment) what you are to do.
